Help Diagnosing My Computer Issues – Random Freezes & Slow Boot

Hey everyone,

I’ve been having some frustrating issues with my computer lately, and I’m hoping someone here might be able to help me troubleshoot. My PC has been randomly freezing, and I’ve also noticed that boot times have become significantly slower over the past few weeks. Sometimes, it takes several minutes just to reach the desktop, and even then, programs are sluggish to open.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Checked Task Manager on startup – No suspicious processes, but disk usage sometimes spikes to 100%.
  • Ran SFC /scannow and CHKDSK – No errors found.
  • Checked for malware and viruses – Used Malwarebytes and Windows Defender; nothing detected.
  • Monitored temperatures – CPU and GPU temps seem normal, so I don’t think it’s an overheating issue.
  • Updated drivers – Everything appears to be up to date, including chipset and graphics drivers.
  • Tested RAM with MemTest86 – No errors detected.
  • Tried booting in Safe Mode – It’s a little faster, but still slower than usual.

My system specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9700K
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200MHz
  • Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD (Windows installed) + 2TB HDD
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro (fully updated)

I’m wondering if my SSD might be failing, but CrystalDiskInfo shows it as “Good.” Could this be a Windows issue, or is there something else I should check? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

What type of ssd is it ?
Have you upgraded your os lately ? E.g. upgraded from 10 to 11.
If you have a spare ssd you could either try a fresh windows install or setup a windows to go and boot from it and see what the performance is like.
Look up if trim is set up and working
Install the software for your ssd and rum a diagnostics on it.
Check if there is a firmware upgrade for your drive.
Reinstall a fresh copy of windows see if it improves.
Finally try dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and then restart the pc
